The most Surf Rich area in all of Nicaragua is located alongside the shores of El Astillero Resort . 4 surf breaks are either right out front of our 650 meters of beach, or a short two or three minute walk away. Surfing at all levels is available, from beginner to advanced.
1. River Mouth Break
The Chacocente Rivermouth at the Rio Escalante is generally rated as a top 10 surf break in Nicaragua! It is favored by many of the surf camp owners around the area. Sometimes compared with Colorados, however it is a wave of its own. Hollow and fast waves and with a nice groundswell it turns on epic!! “A” frame wave breaks both left and right, It is one of the funner waves in the area.

2. Outer Reef
We call in Nicaragua “La Burra”. It is a mysto slab that turns on with DOH+ swells. It is very similar to the Popoyo outer reef in size and power. It is to be treated with respect and is common to see surfers using jet skis to drop into these waves.

3. Lances Left
This is the premiere spot in this area. It breaks over a rock ledge against the cliff across from the Escalante river. This a point break and produces mostly waves going left. It is better to surf with swell of 6ft+. Takeoff is rather smooth and then a great rides comes along. Nice top to bottom waves produce long lines and epic surf with the right swells.

4. Astillero Beach Break
Right out front in the center of the development. A typical beach break, however it has consistency and packs a punch. When its good it breaks both left and right, with low tide it breaks hollow and fast but with the right swells produces epic waves. easy access and very visible make this break an easy go-to wave.
